NECCA

One schedule, 45 spaces. No double bookings.

The problem

NECCA is a circus arts school. Dozens of classes a day share 45 rigging spaces, from trapezes to trampolines.

The schedule was a spreadsheet. Two classes could land on the same trapeze, and the school found out when both groups walked in.

How it works

  1. The building on one screenEvery space down the side, every hour across. The office sees what is free at a glance.
  2. A clash is refusedDrop a class on a taken space and it bounces back with the reason. Spaces, instructors and students are all checked.
  3. A free space takes itMove it somewhere open and it lands. The instructors' Google calendars update on their own.
  4. A closed space stays closedBlock a space for maintenance or an inspection. A class dropped there is refused, with the reason.

Two groups never land in the same space any more. Changing a class takes a drag instead of a morning of phone calls, and the schedule finally holds.
